A Vedic farm community initiative of ISKCON Juhu
Nilachal Vedic Village is an exemplary natural farm community guided by the principles of Vedic scriptures. It underlines the significance of living in harmony with our ecosystem and utilizing the gifts of nature to serve the society. In this world only a mother’s love is considered the closest to God’s love. Our scriptures teach that ‘Gau-Mata’ and ‘Dharti-Mata’ are two of the seven kinds of mothers we have; at Nilachal Vedic Village (NVV), these two mothers play a pivotal role in nourishing a perfectly sustainable system that can fulfil the needs of human society - physical, mental, social, economic, spiritual and environmental.
The village is situated in the Talasari Taluka of Palghar district, Maharashtra; about two hours drive from Mumbai. NVV is home to the Deities of Lord Jagannath, Baladeva and Subhadra, a natural farm, a purifying Gaushala with more than two hundred Desi cows and a comfortable guest house with recreational swimming pool.
The NVV orchard and cow sanctuary at Umbergaon is full of fruit-bearing trees. It is situated along picturesque foothills with the vast blue Arabian Sea on the other side. This location is also known for its “Slaughter House to Shelter House” project which cares for more than a hundred cows rescued from the streets and from being slaughtered.
